The denim maxi skirt

The denim maxi skirt trend is everywhere for 2023. Personally, it never goes out of style for me! It’s a versatile staple piece that can be worn any season. It’s comfortable and it has the ability to compliment many sizes. When I saw Vogue pattern V1683 (R10459), I knew it would be perfect in denim. The close fitting, mock wrap skirt is a timeless style. The high waist, front slit, and asymmetrical hem give multiple points of interest.

I put my spin on this pattern by making a few changes. I left the front panel edges unfinished. After repeated washings and dryings, the front panel edge will ravel more. The stitch on the front edge will stop the raveling at that point. In lieu of making a waistband facing, I used seam binding tape instead. The pattern calls for an invisible zipper, but I used a metal teeth zipper specific for denim. Lastly, I finished off all edges with the classic denim contrast stitching.

Don’t be afraid to take a pattern that is intended for special occasion wear and make it into casual wear. This was a very quick sew! I’d definitely make this skirt again! I’m ready for spring, summer and fall!
