Sewing with intent in 2026

It’s a new year! I’m excited to try some new sewing accessories, new sewing techniques, custom makes and an homage to the past!

I have two sewing machine feet that I’ll be testing on faux leather. A non-stick foot and a roller foot. In the past, I’ve tried using tissue paper to sew a stitch. I’ve also added tape to the bottom of the pressure foot as well. Neither technique has aided in moving faux leather across the sewing plate without a struggle. I’m hoping that one, or both of these machine feet solve that problem for me.

I’m continuing the curation of my little black wardrobe, which will comprise of garments that I can wear for special events. It’s nice to have classic pieces that are ready when needed. My first piece, that I made earlier last year, was a recreation of a 1960s Pierre Cardin design that I found on Pinterest. I put my spin on it by making the garment black and adding wider trim on the side seams. I’d like to build my LBW (little black wardrobe) with at least four seasonal pieces.

I’m going back in time and revisiting looks from the era that I came of age in! The 80s! Some of the garments, that I’ll be making, are from unexpected sources but I’m starting with a classic polka dot knit in my favorite color! The vintage pattern that I’ll be using came from a garage sale years ago. The dress pattern is McCall’s 2923 printed in 1987. This will be a perfect piece that I can wear for years to come!

I have some work garments to make as well as seasonal outerwear and athleisurewear. I also have some digital patterns from independent designers that I can’t wait to create with. I’ll have plenty of projects to keep me busy throughout 2026! I can’t wait to get started! Happy sewing!
